Weekly Wellness Reflection: What Your Body Is Really Trying to Tell You

Lately, I’ve been noticing how sometimes I move through my days without truly checking in with myself. I may jump from task to task—being a mom, supporting patients in my full time work while balancing ways to promote my business, trying to keep life and schedules flowing—and suddenly realize I haven’t taken a full, grounded breath in hours.
It hit me this week in the most ordinary moment: rushing around the kitchen, juggling too much at once. My stomach felt tight, my shoulders were creeping toward my ears, and my mind was stuck on the thought, I just need to finish this. But honestly, my body had been trying to talk to me long before that moment. I just wasn’t listening.
We all do this.We get so used to powering through that discomfort becomes our baseline. It is helpful to understand our body never stops communicating. It whispers until it has no other choice than to shout.
The Ways Our Body Tries to Get Our Attention

Many of the signals we brush off are actually early signs that something internal needs support. Here are some of the most common cues:
Gut Discomfort
Bloating after meals, irregular digestion, emotional cravings, or feeling “off.”For me, this is often the first place stress shows up, even when I haven’t named the stress yet.
Inflammation Cues
Morning joint stiffness, puffy eyes, or headaches that come out of nowhere. Inflammation is often the body’s way of saying, Something needs attention.
Fatigue That Doesn’t Match Your Sleep
The kind of tiredness you can’t push through with caffeine. This can signal that your nervous system is managing something behind the scenes.
Mood Shifts
Irritability, feeling overwhelmed, or increased emotional sensitivity. The gut-brain connection is real, and our internal environment often impacts how we show up emotionally.
Why These Signals Matter
For a long time, I thought wellness meant staying busy or waiting until something was “wrong enough” to address. But slowing down has taught me something important:
Our bodies aren’t working against us. They’re guiding us.
Every symptom is information. Every sensation is data. Every shift is communication.
When we ignore these signals, the whispers eventually turn into symptoms we can’t avoid. Tuning in early is one of the most meaningful ways we can care for ourselves.
A Simple Practice for This Week
Here’s a grounding exercise You can practice in any chair that I’ve been returning to:
Sit in any chair with your knees at a 90 degree angel and your back flat against the back of your chair.
Place one hand on your chest and one on your abdomen.
Take a slow, intentional inhale.
Notice which hand expands first.
Notice where your breath feels restricted.
Notice what your body communicates.
No fixing. No judgment. Just awareness.
It takes only a few seconds, yet it reconnects you to yourself in a meaningful way.
Your Body Is Not the Enemy
If you take anything with you today, let it be this: Your body is not trying to inconvenience you. It’s signaling so you can support yourself sooner, more gently, and more intentionally.
This week, give yourself permission to slow down.Listen closely. Move with intention.Rest without guilt. Your body will tell you what it needs—if you give it space to speak.
